Ian Christie's Lecture on Friday, March 15
On Friday, March 15, at 10 am, Ian Christie will give another of his lectures called “Do You See What I See? Case Studies in Reading Images Historically”. The lecture will be held in the Theatre Hall of the Art Centre of Palacký University (Konvikt).
Do You See What I See? Case Studies in Reading Images Historically (Ian Christie lecture)
Images can obviously document the past, just as they document the present. And in doing so they record the attitudes of those making them, as well as what they 'show'. So why are we nervous about treating them as historical evidence? Is it because we can all read them differently - seeing raw material for different interpretations of the past? Among the example to be considered: Dante meeting Beatrice; Hitler seen in Eva Braun's home movies; and Stalin 'liberating' Berlin.
The talk is aimed at students of theatre, film and media, art history and history. It will be held in English.
